Stanton Signs on as Assistant Coach.
Canterbury United announced this week that Robbie Stanton will be Korouch Monsef’s Assistant for the upcoming NZFC season.
Stanton will complete the current winter season with Western AFC whom he has coached in the Mainland Premier League since 2006, before joining Monsef for the Dragons 2008/09 NZFC Summer campaign.
Stanton was looking forward to the role saying “Working with the elite players in the region with teams competing on a National level is exciting and the challenge for me and the Club will be to re establish Canterbury as a top performer in these competitions”
Having completed his International Team Coaching Licence in 2004 (one of only 7 coaches nationally at that time to achieve this qualification) Stanton has been involved at Federation level coaching various age group teams along with Club commitments.
Canterbury United Director of Football Korouch Monsef said of Stanton’s appointment “Having someone of Robbie’s calibre and experience working alongside me and with the players on a regular basis will add real value especially from a technical point of view” adding that his knowledge of local talent will assist with identification and integration of players into the programme”
Under the direction of Korouch Monsef, Stanton along with Bill Robertson will deliver and manage the coaching programme for Canterbury Uniteds NZFC and Academy teams.
As a player Stanton played to a Southern League standard with the New Brighton Club, a club he first represented at a senior level as a 15 year old in 1981. And apart from a season with Christchurch Tech in 1993, the self employed builder played all of his football at the Bexley Reserve based club until retiring from competitive playing in 1996.
